Carbon Nanotubes and Nanotechnology for the New Applications in Nuclear Power

چکیده
The term “nanotechnology” mainly refers more to an order of magnitude then to a specific scientific discipline. The word is used quite generally to mean the visualisation, characterization, production and manipulation of particles smaller than 100 nm. The field of nanotechnology has, however, seen the greatest progress, and some of its products are already available commercially. A nanomaterial is a any material that either contains a certain proportion of nanoparticles or even consists exclusively of them. Specialists distinguish between nanoparticles in general and what are known as nanotubes or buckyballs. Nanoparticles are small particles that arise in the course of miniaturizing any given material, such as gold, carbon or silicate. Nanotubes and buckyballs are specially manufactured particles which do not occur in nature and have a typical crystalline structure. Buckyballs also known as Buckminster Fullerenes, generally consist of exactly 60 carbon atoms, similar in structure to the pentagons and hexagons on football. The term “nanotube“ generally refers to a hollow cylindrical nanoparticle that is nanoscale (1-100 nm) in diameter, but may be much longer. Nanotubes may or may not consist solely of carbon, but in this article only those, consisting entirely of carbon, will be reviewed.

Measurement of Benzene in Air by Iranian Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes
Background: Nanotechnology is a new approach that has been lionized in recent years. One of its applications is its consumption as an absorbent. In this study, the single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were used as an absorbent for sampling benzene in the air. Materials and Methods: For this study, SWCNTs manufactured by Iran and SKC’s activated charcoal were used for sampling benzene vapors....
متن کاملHuge opportunities for industry of nanofibrous concrete technology
In spite of the fact that cementitious and concrete materials are mainly used on a large scale and in huge quantities for roads, dams, bridges and building constructions, the mechanical behavior of these materials depends to a great extend on structural elements and phenomena which are effective on a micro and nanoscale. Although this is well known by researchers, material producers and enginee...
متن کاملUse of Structure Codes (Counts) for Computing Topological Indices of Carbon Nanotubes: Sadhana (Sd) Index of Phenylenes and its Hexagonal Squeezes
Structural codes vis-a-vis structural counts, like polynomials of a molecular graph, are important in computing graph-theoretical descriptors which are commonly known as topological indices. These indices are most important for characterizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In this paper we have computed Sadhana index (Sd) for phenylenes and their hexagonal squeezes using structural codes (counts). Sa...
متن کاملSynthesis and characterization of fluorinated carbon nanotubes for lithium primary batteries with high power density.
The synthesis and characterization of fluorinated carbon nanotubes have been carried out under an inert gas containing fluorine. All of the samples have been characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance ((13)C and (19)F ss-NMR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The comparison of the effects ...
متن کاملOptimization of Experimental Conditions for Fabrication of Carbon Nanotubes Based onTaguchi obust Design Method
Carbon nanotube, a new structure of carbon element, is composed of graphene sheets rolled into closed concentric cylinders with diameter of the order of nanometers and length of micrometers. Liquid arc discharge was used for fabrication of carbon nanotubes, and subsequently a modified acid treatment method applied for purification stage. A statistical design of experimental (DOE) (Taguchi metho...
